Natural Fibers
At Arihant Collection, we work with a selection of the finest natural fibers. Each material has its own character, from the cloudlike loft of cashmere to the hearty warmth of yak wool. Here’s a closer look at what goes into our textiles.
Cashmere
Sourced from the undercoat of Himalayan mountain goats, cashmere is renowned as one of the softest, warmest, and most luxurious fibers in the world. Our cashmere threads are ultra-fine (averaging 15-16 microns in diameter), giving our textiles their signature silky drape. We source ethically, ensuring the goats are combed gently each spring. The result is a fiber that is light-as-air yet insulating, perfect for throws that warm you without weighing you down.
Merino Wool
Sourced from Merino sheep, this wool is prized for its softness and elasticity. While slightly more robust than cashmere, fine merino wool still offers a gentle touch and excellent warmth. We sometimes blend merino with cashmere to enhance durability while preserving a luxe feel. Merino’s natural breathability and moisture-wicking make it a wonderful, resilient fiber for pieces meant to endure daily use.
Yak Wool
Collected from the yaks of the Tibetan plateau and Himalayan regions, yak fiber is often compared to cashmere for its warmth and softness. Its fibers have a subtle brown hue naturally and are slightly thicker (~18-20 microns), making yak wool very hard-wearing yet comfortably soft. We love yak wool for heavier throws or blankets that need extra coziness and a rustic touch. It’s hypoallergenic and completely untreated in our workshop - we let the natural strength of yak shine.
Camel Hair
Sourced from the soft undercoat of camels, this fiber has a beautiful golden hue and a balance of softness and strength. Camel hair is warm and drapes well, historically used in high-end overcoats and blankets. We incorporate camel hair in some of our pieces or custom orders for its natural desert-toned elegance and insulating properties. It pairs wonderfully with cashmere in blends, lending a bit of weight and a subtle luster.
Silk
Occasionally, for special orders or lightweight shawls, we blend pure Mulberry silk with our cashmere. Silk adds a delicate sheen and extra drape to the textile, creating pieces that feel almost ethereal. The combination of silk’s strength and cashmere’s plushness yields a fabric that is both featherlight and resilient.
Signature Blends
We create custom blends of these fibers to achieve specific qualities. For instance, our cashmere-merino blend throws combine cashmere’s softness with merino’s durability, ideal for interiors that need a touch of everyday luxury. Our cashmere-silk shawls marry warmth with a hint of sheen. If you have a particular blend in mind, we can likely craft it - all our materials are chosen for being the finest in their category.
We prioritize materials from sources that treat animals humanely and support traditional livelihoods. All dyes used on these fibers are eco-friendly and AZO-free, ensuring the final textile is safe and planet-conscious
